Version 1.0. Effective date: October 1, 2026. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean the operator of Tales Around the Fire, named in section 10.
1. Who may use the service
You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you.
The service is offered in English and is intended for use outside Quebec.
One person per account. Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
The service is a test version. It may change, break or be reset, and your data may be deleted. Keep your own copy of anything important (a game can be exported from the Scenes panel).
2. Your content
"Your content" means everything you put on the service: game maps and pictures, tokens, notes, character sheets, chat and anything else.
You keep ownership of your content. You give us a licence to store, copy and show it as needed to run the service for you and the people you share it with (for example, to show your map to the players in your game, to back it up, and to move it between our servers). The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups that are removed on their normal schedule.
You promise you have the right to upload what you upload, and that it does not break the law or anyone's rights (see section 3).
Private is not secret. What you write in a game, including whispers, is stored on our server so the game works. The people who run the service can technically read it. We do not read games as a matter of routine and will only do so to run, protect or fix the service, to deal with a report, or if the law requires. See the Privacy Policy.
3. What is not allowed
You may not use the service to:
break the law, or encourage others to;
harass, threaten, or abuse others, or share hate speech;
share sexual content involving anyone under 18, or sexual content that other players in a game have not agreed to see;
upload material you do not have the right to use, including other publishers' maps, art or adventures that you have no permission to share;
share other people's private information;
attack, probe or overload the service, try to reach other people's accounts or games, or work around limits or access controls;
send spam, or use the service for advertising;
pretend to be someone else, or to be us.
We may remove content, end a game, or suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Where we can, we will tell you why.
4. Copyright complaints
If you believe something on the service infringes your copyright, send a notice to [email protected] with: who you are and how to reach you; what the work is; where it appears on the service (the game code and what is shown); a statement that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and that the information is accurate. We will pass notices on and may remove the content. We may end the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.
5. Game systems and third-party material
The service can use rules and content published under open licences (for example the System Reference Document 5.1 under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0). The licences and credits are listed on the Licences page. Other publishers' names and trademarks belong to them; we are not affiliated with them and they do not endorse the service. You are responsible for any third-party adventures or art you bring.
6. AI-assisted content
Some content we provide, such as example adventures and character pictures, was created with the help of AI tools and is labelled "AI" where it appears. AI-generated material may not be protected by copyright, and we do not promise that it is free of similarities to other works. You use it at your own risk.
7. Our service and its limits
We provide the service "as is", without promises that it will always be available, error-free, or that your data will never be lost.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from your use of the service, including lost data, lost game content or interruptions. Where a limit on liability is not allowed, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (nothing, for the free service). Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, for example for our own intentional or gross fault, or for bodily injury.
Voice chat connects players directly to each other. Other players can see your network address while a call is connected.
8. Ending things
You can stop using the service and ask us to delete your account at any time ([email protected]). We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or to protect the service or other people. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as 7 and 9) continue.
9. Changes and law
We may change these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the service before it applies, and ask you to agree again. These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be handled by the courts of Quebec, or by the courts where you live if the law gives you that right.
